Golden Week Shipping Changes 2026
Golden Week is a period in Japan when several national holidays fall consecutively. May 3rd is Constitution Memorial Day, May 4th is Greenery Day, and May 5th is Children’s Day. As May 3rd falls on a Sunday this year, May 6th will be observed as a substitute holiday.
Like every year our store will be open everyday, but our shipping partners will not, so online orders will be impacted. Our trading hours also change slightly. See below for further information.
Impact to Online and Shipping Orders from May 1st
Due to Golden Week holidays and the holiday closure of our shipping partners, all orders placed between Friday May 1st, 2026 to Wednesday May 6th, 2026 will be shipped from Thursday May 7th, 2026. We expect shipments made at this time to be slightly delayed also as postal services catch up.
Please check your email if you make an order during or before this window, as we may contact you for further information. Delayed responses will delay shipping times, possibly into (and thus sent after) this holiday period.
Online customer support from us is unaffected by these days off, but will adhere to our reduced trading hours.
Store Hours During Golden Week
We are still open during Golden Week, as are some other stores on Doguyasuji Shopping Street! Please come visit us and learn all about Sakai Uchihamono and kitchen knife culture. ICHITOI still operates during this time also, but free sharpening classes may not run if the store is busy. We do have reduced staff during this time as some of then also take holidays, so we ask for your kind understanding and patience.
On holidays, our trading hours switches to our weekend trading hours.
As a result, from Saturday May 2nd, 2026 to Wednesday May 6th, 2026, we will open from 10:30AM to 6:30PM. Normal trading hours will resume from Thursday May 7th, 2026 as the holidays end then.
We are open everyday in this holiday period. Our online support services stay open during this period too, following the hours above.
